Description

A laugh-out-loud sapphic romance. Girl meets girl, but will cynical Saoirse let herself fall in love with Ruby? After the breakupocalypse with her ex, seventeen-year-old Saoirse plans to spend the summer before uni partying, getting drunk, watching horror movies and forgetting all her family troubles by kissing girls. Enter the scene: Ruby, who might just be the prettiest girl Saoirse’s ever seen. A romcom fan and a believer in true love, Ruby challenges cynical Saoirse to try a summer romance with the serious parts left out, just like in the movies. But what happens when the falling in love montage ends? Winner of the Children's Books Ireland Junior Juries' Award and shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards YA Book of the Year. From the author of Not My Problem, winner of the Waterstones Prize for Older Readers. 'An emotionally stirring queer romance with witty, playful dialogue' Publishers Weekly

Media Reviews

"An outrageously comic, moving debut" -- Guardian
"It’s so special, so arrestingly heartfelt, and so painfully, gorgeously real" -- Becky Albertalli
"Funny, sexy and smart, The Falling in Love Montage is the romcom to beat all romcoms. I loved it" -- Cat Clarke
"An emotionally stirring queer romance with witty, playful dialogue" * Publishers Weekly *
"Audaciously fills a gap in queer romance. The novel's voice is delightfully brash and no-nonsense ... Smyth paints each character as a complex, messy, lifelike individual." * Kirkus *

Ciara Smyth studied drama, teaching and then social work at university. She thought she didn’t know what she wanted to be when she grew up. She became a writer so she wouldn’t have to grow up. Ciara has lived in Belfast for over ten years and still doesn’t really know her way around.
