Description

“This book fills a much-needed gap in the tapestry of support that all new entrants to the profession need ... [and for] experienced professionals, it offers a helpful reminder of how to tackle a multitude of professional dilemmas ... As such, I have no hesitation in recommending it.”

Dr Oliver Jenkin PGCE RCDP, NICEC Fellow. CDI Senior Professional Development and Standards Manager, and Editor of the CDI’s magazine, Career Matters

A practical, accessible and informative guide, aimed at both the newly qualified Career Development Professional wandering out into the wilds of the careers sphere, as well as the more experienced practitioner looking to change roles, improve their practice or pick up some top tips to make working life easier.

Expert authors, Jules Benton and Chris Targett, help practitioners navigate the realities of their job, providing practical guidance and offering steady reassurance. Drawing on real world examples from their own extensive experience, the authors equip CDPs with the life hacks they need to excel in any situation, whatever the setting.

This practical handbook offers:

  • Real-Life examples: Practical strategies and techniques drawn from real experiences to help CDPs transform their practice.
  • Accessible format: An A to Z of career development, including entries as wide-ranging as curiosity, difficult conversations, equality and equity, humour, learning styles, opportunities, play, reflection and visibility.
  • User-friendly content: Written in a clear, accessible format and illustrated throughout to support different ways of learning.

With a focus on continuous improvement and reflective practice, The Career Development Professional’s Survival Guide helps practitioners to develop safe, effective and inclusive ways of working to become the outstanding professionals their clients deserve and need.
