Description

Employment Law and Practice begins by addressing the crucial issue of a person’s employment status before going on to look at key employment rights, including the national minimum wage and working time regulations. Next, it examines the complex law relating to discrimination as well as the application of employment law to recruitment and the contract of employment.

The book then explains key family-friendly rights, including maternity and paternity leave and pay. It discusses policies and procedures during employment, before reviewing the termination of employment, including unfair and wrongful dismissal and redundancy.

Transfers of undertakings are explained together with an outline of the procedures at employment tribunals. The formalities and uses of settlement agreements are also discussed.

Finally, the future of Employment Law is reviewed, including the implications of technological change on employment.

The book is supported by a number of activities and links to practice which reflect the author’s wide-ranging experience in employment practice.

Employment Law and Practice is the recommended textbook for the CILEX Professional Stage Employment Law and Practice module, but it will also provide invaluable guidance for law students and junior employment lawyers who are seeking to improve their knowledge and practical skills in this area.
