This practical guide is designed to help anyone attending the Royal Yachting Association Day Skipper Practical Motor Cruising course. The aim is to provide the student with the knowledge to skipper a motor cruiser safely by day, in waters in which he or she is familiar. Topics covered include: basics of hull and propulsion design; preparation of the boat for sea; boat handling; emergency procedures; advanced motoring techniques; procedures for leaving a berth and arrival; revision of navigational terms; use of charts and tidal calculations; passage planning; and knots, ropework and seamanship. Each section concludes with questions and answers to aid revision.
