The government has recently concluded its most comprehensive revalidation of Special Educational Needs (SEN) for over 30 years. This book aims to simplify and draw together the plethora of new legislation, policy and guidance to help educators support their pupils with SEN and/or disability. It provides practical examples to guide busy practitioners in completing relevant documentation. It also includes quizzes, photocopiable information and activities that can be used to explain the implications of legislation to others. Each section highlights the implications of the policy or guidance to the school leadership team, SENCos, teachers and governors. This book will benefit: senior leadership teams and governors who must review and assess their existing practice and the arrangements in schools regarding the management, support and teaching provided for pupils with SEN to reflect current legislation; SENCos who may wish to consider their roles and responsibilities towards teachers, teaching assistants and pupils with SEN; teachers in primary and secondary schools who must enhance their existing skills in order to support and teach pupils with SEN; teaching assistants who may find their role in supporting pupils with SEN has changed as a result of new policies; parents who wish to understand the impact of policy changes on the education of their child.
