He also journeys inland to the heights of Windover Hill, Firle Beacon and Mount Caburn, and to the historic town of Lewes. He treads the South Downs Way where it follows the ancient ridgeway dating from Neolithic times, when herdsmen first cleared the primeval forest. Much of England's early history was enacted here, successive invasions by Celts, Romans, Saxons and Normans all having left their mark on the landscape in the form of burial mounds, hill forts, churches and castles. Michael George frequently exhibits his photography in New York, and is the author of "New York Today", "The Statue of Liberty" and "The Gardens of Ireland".
