Author's Bio
Helen Ward trained as an illustrator at Brighton School of Art, under the direction of well-known children's illustrators such as Raymond Briggs, Justin Todd, Chris McEwan and John Vernon Lord. In 1985, her final year at Brighton, Helen was awarded the first Walker Prize for Children's illustration. Helen's books have been published by Templar for many years. Titles include The King of the Birds, Old Shell, New Shell, and Just So Stories. In 1999 Helen was the winner of the book category in the UK National Art Library Illustration Awards for her title The Hare and The Tortoise. In 2000, Helen illustrated a new edition of The Wind in the Willows, which repeated this feat. Templar published a stunning version of The Animals Christmas Carol, and the medieval story, The Cockerel and The Fox. She has also recently written The Tin Forest and The Dragon Machine, illustrated by Wayne Anderson and also available from Templar. Two of Helen's most recent projects are the stunning Aesop's Fables, which Helen has both retold and illustrated, and The Boat, written by Helen and illustrated by Ian Andrew. Helen is currently working on a new title, Moondog, with Wayne Anderson, and she is also illustrating a new alphabet book, entitled Helen Ward's Animal ABC. Helen lives in a cottage in Gloucestershire.
