Description

Dylan Thomas is one of most beloved poets of the twentieth century. Richly melodious and expressive, Thomas's poems strike to the heart of eternal themes of living and dying, of childhood days lost and the vigorous beauty of nature. With restless creativity, he made the English language anew and his work inspired countless artists from Igor Stravinsky to Bob Dylan. In this new selection, Cerys Matthews brings together poems from across Thomas's career - including some of his very earliest works - to showcase the blossoming of his singular poetic voice. Full of lush imagery and unforgettable lines, this is the perfect introduction to a remarkable writer.

Author's Bio

Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea in 1914. He began writing poetry as a child and left school at 16 to be a reporter for the South Wales Daily Post; several of his most famous poems were published while he was still a teenager. Thomas went on to become one of the major poets of the 20th century, while also writing short stories and scripts for film and radio, the most famous of which being Under Milk Wood. He died in New York shortly after his 39th birthday. Cerys Matthews is a musician, author and broadcaster. She was a founding member of the multi-million-selling band Catatonia and currently hosts and programmes an award-winning radio show on BBC 6 Music every Sunday. In 2022, she adapted Thomas's Under Milk Wood into a new edition for children. She has received a St David Award and an MBE for her services to culture.
