Description

Pastors face two temptations when they consider church leadership: one, common in more culturally conservative churches, is simply to preach faithfully and assume that that alone is adequate Christian leadership; the other, common in more culturally contemporary churches, is to apply secular business wisdom, but uncritically. The books published mirror the two camps. Both drive a wedge between the Bible and leadership. What if the gift of leadership was a clear outworking of biblical teaching? What if there is in the Bible a consistent pattern of human communities flourishing under the good rule of God’s Word. Drawing on years of teaching and ministry, Chris Green shows us how, as Mike Ovey put it, Christian leaders can be God's best possible gift to flourishing communities.

Media Reviews

Perhaps like many others you have been deeply discouraged in recent years by the failure of certain Christian leaders. I confess that on one occasion, after a media release, I was so deflated I just couldn't get out of bed that morning. It's for this reason Chris Green's book, The Gift, is both timely and timeless, for any who long for realistic Biblical, pastoral and applied wisdom on leadership. I found it immensely steadying. -- Rico Tice, All Souls Church and Christianity Explored
Chris Green explores the major tenets of a healthy leadership environment and ends each chapter with helpful summary. The writing is evocative and the experience immersive. His chapter on the twelve elements of biblical ministry and the church health-check are worth the cost of the book alone. A good read and one to take any seasoned leader back to the launch pad that catapulted them into ministry. For those who might be weary and need a reboot and for those who are setting others on fire to hear a call to leadership. It will equip those who lead and those who mentor and coach others to lead. -- Rachel Marszalek, Vicar, All Saints Ealing
A great book, full of biblical clarity, pastoral insight and leadership counsel. -- James Lawrence, Leadership Principal, CPAS
