Every so often... a book arrives which shows the possibility of reconsidering and reconceiving the way poetry works in Ireland: Leabhar Na hAthghabhála: Poems of Repossession (Cló Iar-Chonnacht/Bloodaxe) is one of those books… This is a terrific, open introduction to a century of Irish-language poetry and its connections and conjunctions animate the debates and breakthroughs and experiments, successful and otherwise, that comprise our living tradition. * The Irish Times *
Author's Bio
Louis de Paor was born in 1961 in Cork. He has been Director of the Centre for Irish Studies at NUI Galway since 2000. His most recent bilingual editions of his own poetry are Ag Greadadh Bas sa Reilig / Clapping in the Cemetery (2005) and Agus Rud Eile De / And Another Thing (2010), both from Clo Iar-Chonnachta, and The Brindled Cat and the Nightingale's Tongue (Bloodaxe Books/Clo Iar-Chonnachta, 2014). His other books include an anthology of 20th-century poetry in Irish, Coisceim na haoise seo (1991), co-edited with Sean O Tuama. He has collaborated with Cork singer John Spillane under the name Gaelic Hit Factory, with piper Ronan Browne and with Irish-Egyptian sean-nos singer Naisrin Elsafty. The CD accompanying Agus Rud Eile De / And Another Thing and the enhanced ebook with audio edition of The Brindled Cat and the Nightingale's Tongue draw on his collaborations with Ronan Browne.
