Media Reviews

I've been using the student book and it's so helpful to have this right now with the new syllabus.
Both I and my students love the top tips and common mistakes sections - the common mistakes especially are really good at highlighting those points that perhaps might not get emphasized enough in class and end up as mistakes in their answers.

-- Mine Kanol
The Hodder textbook by Paul, Tanu and Sean is growing on my students. We like the no-nonsense approach, examples, diagrams and tips of things that are often confused (e.g: public goods and public sector). Highly recommend it! -- Samira Amin, KIS International School, Bangkok, Thailand * email *

The authors have provided a bright, engaging, and well-constructed text that fully supports all IB Diploma Economists in understanding the entire syllabus, first assessment 2022.
Firstly, the content is covered clearly and in the appropriate details with clear text supported by colourful diagrams and photographs. Key terms are highlighted in the margins to build the students vocabulary and support their understanding. Everything is where is should be and laid out in an exceedingly engaging way. However, the text goes further than this in supporting the student in developing their understanding of various areas of the IB Diploma. Of course, at the forefront of this is Assessment with links made between the text and how it could be assessed, Assessment Objectives (AOs) are introduced and continually referred back to. Sprinkled within the text are practise exam questions to develop students' familiarity with the different styles of assessment. The text develops in more detail by improving the students fuller understanding of the IB Diploma with connections to the Theory of Knowledge and AtL (Approaches to Teaching and Learning). It also contributes "Top Tips" and "Common Errors" thereby fully supporting the student learning and sharing the authors experience as educators and examiners. In all I feel this text makes a step forward towards being more of an holistic education tome than purely a content container.
The 9 themes of the course are integrated well within the text. The authors have developed their own, WISE ChoICES, acronym which is certain to become synonymous with this course. This is referred to throughout the text to develop student conceptual understanding.
One of my favourite aspects in the text is the use of Case Studies. There are a multitude of these spread throughout the book which will allow students a great way to integrate Real Life Examples into their study. The slight danger is that these may age badly over the life of the course but at this point they are exceedingly up to date and a great start. Hopefully, they will inspire students to see the connection between their study and the real world and allow them a focussed start for investigation opportunities to further develop their use of real-world examples.
In summary a top text that fully supports all students, is engaging and supports the delivery of the course, and its philosophy, completely.
