Stephen Hillenburg is an American marine biologist, cartoonist, producer, and voice actor who is best known for creating the hit Nickelodeon television series SpongeBob SquarePants. Prior to beginning his career in animation, Hillenburg taught marine biology at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, CA. Hillenburg has won two Emmys and six Annie Awards for his directing and writing work on SpongeBob. He lives in Los Angeles, California.
