Description

From award-winning picture book makers Viviane Schwarz and Alexis Deacon comes a story about the struggle for dominance over one piece of cheese... Rat law is simple: if you take a piece of cheese, it belongs to you. So if a bigger rat takes it ... then cheese belongs to them. Unless ... a quicker rat swipes it! Every rat knows rat law; if you are big or quick, strong or scary, hairy or dirty, or, indeed, all of the above. But just who gets to EAT the cheese? More hilarious and innovative storytelling from the brilliant creative duo behind A Place to Call Home. This cumulative text will have readers zooming through the pages at lightning speed ... and clamouring for repeats!

Media Reviews

A hugely innovative and read aloud romp from two of today's most original picture book creators. * Bookseller *
Rats and bits of cheese fly everywhere in Vivian Schwarz's energetic drawings * Guardian *
A wonderful, unbridled book * The Observer *
Clever and thoughtful * Booktrust *
A book that ticks all the precepts of what a book for younger audiences have to be like. Simple language, simple approach to illustration, simple story, simple moral and even a tagline you can repeat over and over again. * Inis *
This unusual picture book about the hierarchy of power in the old of rats is wonderfully unusual and full of humour. The repeated language . . . is fun and amusing. Readers will enjoy guessing the following rhyme as the pages are turned. The illustrations are lively, full of humour and tensions. . . the ending is unexpected and reassuring whilst raising a smile and a chuckle * Carousel *
