Description
The Class 60 locomotive was the last class of heavy freight diesel locomotives to be built in the United Kingdom for British Rail and was arguably the most powerful from a standing start. The order for a hundred locomotives was placed with Brush Traction during 1987 and the final one entered service in 1993, following a multitude of teething problems. The class has had a chequered history with many being stored surplus to requirements in 2003. Twenty locomotives were refurbished from 2011 but by early 2024 DB Cargo had withdrawn all their remaining ones in service, leaving fourteen that had previously been sold to DC Rail and GB Railfreight via Colas Rail some years earlier.
This book offers a pictorial celebration of each locomotive with an overview of the names carried, liveries, depots allocated and sector workings.
