Middlesbrough FC has a proud history going back to when it was founded in 1876. FA Amateur Cup winner in 1895 and 1898, League Cup winners in 2004 and UEFA Cup finalists in 2006, Boro have graced England's top two divisions for most of their history during which time they have often led the way as football pioneers both on and off the pitch. During the club's 92-year-stay at the Archibald Leitch-designed Ayresome Park, Boro broke the world-record transfer record and included stars such as George Camsell, Wilf Mannion, Brian Clough amongst their ranks, whilst football legends Jack Charlton and Bryan Robson began their managerial careers in Middlesbrough. Since moving to the Riverside Stadium in 1995, Middlesbrough FC have experienced a rollercoaster few decades including world-renowned stars such as Juninho, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Gaizka Mendieta, Mark Schwarzer, Gareth Southgate, Mark Viduka and Yakubu donning the famous red and white shirt as the club has enjoyed famous European nights and promotions alongisde the heartbreak of relegations and cup final defeats.

Author's Bio

Dr Tosh Warwick is a Heritage Consultant and Historian with Heritage Unlocked and Research Associate in Urban Studies at the University of Sheffield. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Tosh has expertise in urban history and heritage and has appeared as an expert contributor for BBC TV and Radio (Match of the Day 2, Great British Railway Journeys, Who Do You Think You Are? BBC Radio 4's Today programme, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC local radio), ITV and Channel 5. He is the author of numerous articles and several books on Teesside's heritage.
