Description

Good drawing forms the basis of all art - and is art in its own right. This book takes an in-depth look at drawing, exploring the many varieties of line and mark possiblies in different media, and comparing different styles. Questions such as 'What is drawing and what are its purposes?' and 'Can anyone do it?' will be answered, and those who have barely put pencil to paper will be guided gently through the basics. Drawing is not just for beginners, it will inspire those who already have experience to go further and explore more advanced techniques. From start to finish, every reader will be shown how to hone their observational skills to achieve convincing and satisfying results.

Author's Bio

Paul Thomas (Author)
Since 2004 Paul Thomas has spent his time travelling between Australia and Europe. His work reflects this cultural diversity in drawings and paintings that explore shared mythologies and narratives. Having recently finished a series of drawings that dealt with Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, he is now working with the diverse flora and fauna of Australia. The dramatic and inventive landscape allows him the freedom to develop new projects outside of his usual context and challenges his own position as a European artist.

Anita Taylor (Author)
Anita Taylor is a figurative painter, exploring identity, emotion and narrative through tableaux and interactions which are at once highly theatrical, ye intimate and symbolic. Alongside her practice as an artist, Anita Taylor has worked in art education in numerous roles, including: Director of The Centre for Drawing at the University of the Arts, London; Dean of Wimbledon College of Art, University of the Arts, London, and Deputy Head of School, School of Art, Media and Design at the University of Gloucestershire, where she was first awarded a Professorial title. She is currently the Director of the National Art School in Sydney, Australia.
Anita also co-founded and is co-director (with Paul Thomas) of the Jerwood Drawing Prize, a prominent annual award and touring exhibition that showcases current drawing practice in the UK.
