Harry McCallion left school at 16 with no qualifications. His father was a Glasgow gangster. He joined the Paras and served for seven years with six tours in Ulster. Six years with the SAS, which included the Falklands conflict, and two tours with the anti-terrorist team in Ulster, were followed by six years in the RUC. At the end McCallion nearly died in a car crash, left the RUC, completed a law degree and in 1995 is studying to become a barrister at the London Bar.
