Direkt! provides authentic practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing German for GCSE, S-Grade or similar examinations. It includes 10 topic-based units covering the most common occurring communicative areas, such as personal language, transport, shopping and food and drink. A feature of the text is the inclusion of, and reference to, German-speaking areas such as Austria and Switzerland, as well as West Germany itself. This student textbook contains Basic and Higher level exercises, usually on facing pages, for each unit on each topic. The language work is based on recorded material, which provides listening experience, and varied illustrations, such as signs, menus, advertisements, timetables, letters and other authentic documents.
