Scrambling is an activity in which aspects of walking and rock climbing are combined to create more varied and challenging routes. The Lake District offers an almost inexhaustible selection of good scrambling terrain, covering all grades of difficulty and incorporating rocky ridges, broad buttresses and flower-filled gills. For this book the author, who has climbed in the Lake District for 30 years, has used his knowledge to create 50 circular routes which provide full days on the fells but avoid difficult return journeys late in the day. The routes are based in popular areas such as Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale, and the descriptions are accompanied by detailed maps.
