This is an account of observations of exotic wildlife made in the vast, sparcely-populated Iberian hinterland where tourists seldom venture. Then as he penetrated into the the mountains and lonely marshes he discovered the isolated haunts of the Spanish ibex, the mongoose, the wild boar, the bear, the wolf and the lynx. The author's experiences led him to contend that Spain could justly claim not only the richest wildlife in Europe but also one of the most enlightened conservation programmes in the world.
