Description
Chris Eubank exploded into the public consciousness in September 1990 with a dramatic and ferocious defeat of Nigel Benn for the WBO middleweight crown. Once crowned champion (he made 19 successful defences), his professional life accelerated into one of the most controversial and dynamic records in the history of the sport. But his early life, a period Chris recalls with brutal honesty, was so very different. Aged 14, Eubank was ejected from the last in a long line of care homes and was living on the streets. His life was a mess of shoplifting, burglary, drink and drugs from which there seemed no escape. In 1981, in a last-ditch attempt to drag himself from the abyss, he relocated to New York with his mother. Here he started boxing, aged 16, graduated from school, attended church and quit drink and drugs; within two years he had won the prestigious Spanish Golden Gloves Amateur title.
Some of the incredible experiences Chris recalls in his autobiography include: his involvement in a car crash which saw a man die, how he became Lord of the Manor of Brighton and bought the old Pier, his reaction to Michael Watson's horrific injuries sustained in their 1992 super-middleweight contest, his visits to Mike Tyson in prison, his relationship with Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali, his ceaseless charity work, his passion for his truck (the largest in Europe), and his legendary sartorial elegance and extravagance. Chris's life outside of boxing is even more enigmatic and compelling. His internationally renowned persona has made him a genuine household name, a recently crowned "Sportsman of the Decade", repeated winner of several "Best Dressed Man" awards and figure-head for many high-profile advertising campaigns. He is one of the world's most famous and engaging sportsmen. This biography is the full and frank life story of one of the greatest British boxers of modern times, whose unique mix of eccentric personality and strong moral values have made him a role model to thousands of fans the world over.
