Biography
The queen of teen vampire romance, Stephenie Meyer helped to redefine the supernatural novel and introduced a whole new generation to the genre. Born on Christmas Eve, 1973, Meyer was an avid reader from a young age, and attended Brigham Young University to study English Literature, graduating in 1997. Although she had dreams of becoming an author, she initially considered becoming a lawyer because she felt the chances of making it as a writer were slim.
Having never written before, in 2003 she was inspired to write her first novel following a dream about a human girl and a vampire who falls in love with her. The novel, Twilight, was turned down by 14 publishers and was eventually sold at auction. Published in 2005, it topped the New York Times bestsellers chart for Children’s Books and was named as Publishers Weekly Best Book Of The Year.
New Moon (2006), Eclipse (2207) and Breaking Dawn (2008) completed the Twilight series, which has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, been translated in 37 languages and adapted into a hit film franchise. Exploring the love triangle between a human girl, a vampire man and a werewolf, the Twilight Saga is heavily influenced by Meyer’s Morman faith, exploring themes of temptation, morality and eternal life.
Accessible and compelling, Stephenie Meyer’s novels bring to life old-fashioned romance in a modern day setting. Combining forbidden love with fantasy, the supernatural and the everyday trials of being a teenager, Meyer’s novels are intense, relatable and extremely addictive.
