Claire Douglas

Biography

Exploring the dark secrets that lurk within seemingly ordinary families, Claire Douglas is an internally bestselling author known for her domestic noir psychological thrillers. From a young age, Claire Douglas was always fascinated with reading and knew she wanted to be an author. Inspired by Enid Blyton adventure stories as a child and Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple books as a young adult, she wrote her first novel aged 23, which she assures us is terrible and will never see the light of day. While writing features for national newspapers and women’s magazines, Douglas continued to write in her spare time, entering competitions but never being successful. Having written only three chapters of her latest attempt, she sent them off to the Marie Claire Debut Novel Award and didn’t hear anything for months. Eventually, she was informed she had won; her prize was an introduction to a literary agent and a publishing deal with HarperCollins. Her debut novel, The Sisters, was published in 2015. A Sunday Times bestseller, it was quickly followed by Local Girl Missing and Last Seen Alive, both of which enjoyed the same success. Since then, she has gone on to publish more than 10 books, all of which have topped the bestsellers charts and many of which were picked as reads for the Richard & Judy Book Club. Her novels have been translated into 13 different languages around the world, and have sold more than 2 million copies in the UK alone. With a focus on female characters, everyday locations, family dynamics and the dark secrets that play out behind closed doors, Claire Douglas is an author of page-turning psychological thrillers that everyone can relate to.
