David Herbert. Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, playwright Tennessee Williams and the painter Claudio Bravo are revealed in candid portraits. The splendid and sometimes sad stories of great houses that change their styles with their very different owners are featured, combined with pictures from some of the extravagant parties still hosted in them.

Tessa Codrington first travelled to Tangier when she was nine years old. She worked as a fashion photographer in London in the sixties and seventies and continues to work as a photographer today.
