This book is a visual history of farming techniques and related agricultural crafts with reference to the hand tools, implements and machinery used, from 1700 to the present day. A companion volume to "Farm Machinery 1750-1945", this book traces the development of such farming techniques as ploughing, sowing, harvesting, threshing and dibbling throughout the period with information on the hand tools, agricultural implements and modern mechanized equipment employed. The author assesses the new skills acquired by farmers and labourers and how technological developments affected rural life. The second part of the book looks at related agricultural crafts such as hedging and ditching, stacking and tick making, thatching the ticks, straw ropemaking, farm transport, wheelwrighting, hurdle making and rake making.
