Book Overview: This is a lively, three-dimensional biography, thoroughly researched from original German sources, of the world's most famous fighter pilot: First World War ace Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron. Including some of Richthofen's own writings, it shows how his approach to air combat shaped air warfare right through to the present day. It lists and details all his victories, and matches myth to reality in a fascinating, fast-moving account of open cockpit dogfights. Richthofen has never been studied in this detail before; it becomes apparent to the reader that it was Richthofen, above all others, who determined how war in the air should be fought. 'A richly detailed air epic' - Aviation History.
